Artist Statement

Emotions are one of the key concepts in my works that derive from personal experiences as I feel that emotions play a huge role in the human condition. By expressing emotions in my work using painting or drawing, the subject matters would be surrealistic that have both human and animal elements, where I want my viewers to relate and empathize. I would exaggerate the subject matter’s features to intensify the emotions that I am trying to express with my audience, such as anxiety or pain. Some of my artistic inspirations would be Robert Mapplethorpe and Ren Hang as they portray sexuality and nudity in their works, which make them controversial and confrontational. They have given me new insight to my artistic development such as censorship and the exploration of the human body. I personally view my art as being in the contemporary period, as the development and expression through my work is more relevant to the contemporary context.
